Week Two - starting to settle in.

Our second week has been a lot of fun. RAS (Rabat American School) has been wining and dining us and then in-between meals taking us shopping. We've gone to the Medina (great markets lots of fresh fish and vegetables as well as leather goods including shoes) and to Sale where we there is lots of pottery, baskets, and woodwork. We look forward to visiting these places in the next two years. We've unpacked all of our bags and got out our bikes. Last Thursday we biked in to the school with Paul, RAS's director. It looks like we put the bikes together correctly and had a pleasant bike ride in. We hope to commute a lot on the bikes.

School starts on Wednesday and Marc has a lot to learn about the school. I'll be teaching Algebra I (8th) , Geometry (9th grade), and Math SL 1 and 2 (11th and 12th grade). We've been patiently waiting for our Carte de Sejour cards - which will allow us to officially work in the country and own a car.

We've been really eating well. French pastries every morning and great sandwiches for lunch. The restaurants are fantastic in Rabat. A few feet away from our apartment is an excellent fish restaurant that is right on the ocean. So far we've been to great Italian, Spanish, and Moroccan Restaurants. The director and the principals have each hosted all 21 new teachers to great meals at their house (Indian, Moroccan, and Italian food).

So far we've been really happy with our apartment. We bought the furniture from the previous tenant (who was the high school math teacher) including the Internet. The Internet has worked pretty well and our skype phone has had pretty good reception. It cuts off ever so often but we haven't figured why yet. Give us a call, it will sound like we are in the US! The area is pretty quiet and there are many Moroccans around. We're quickly trying to learn about the small things in Moroccan life such as where to throw away garbage, paying for the "street guard", and keeping our apartment free from mildew. What wonderful pictures. The coast certainly does look like Mars. Your sunsets are terrific. You certainly can take great pictures. Maybe that could be another job opportunity.

I wish I was 25 years younger and doing what you are dong!!!! To be that close to the coast and fresh markets, I would be in seafood heaven. Of course I would have to have Sam with me to cook. :) I love all of the pictures, I feel that I can really visualize what you are experiencing.
