April in Paris

It feels like we were dreaming. What an amazing week in Paris! Lots of time to relax, eat, and walk around Paris. We stayed at Hotel Observatoire Luxembourg which is next to the southern tip of the Luxembourg gardens. It was the perfect location. We were able to be away from tourists and hang out in the Luxembourg gardens when ever we wanted to.

We arrived last Saturday afternoon. We left our car at the Rabat airport and enjoyed landing in Paris with out suffering jet lag (only two hour difference from Rabat). We walked up to the Latin Quarter and had lunch. About 4 days later, we found out that this wasn't the Latin Quarter (only the foreign tourists think it is the Latin quarter). We were just in the tourist section outside of Notre Dame. It turns out that our hotel is actually in the Latin Quarter - very nice area. We walked around Notre Dame (only a 15 minute walk from our hotel) and came back and took a nap. We took lots of naps on this trip - a good definition of a relaxing vacation. Later that evening we ate at a popular pub.

Sunday we went to a Flea Market "Marche aux Puces" and didn't buy. It was where my parents bought a lot of their furniture more than 40 years ago. After hanging out in the Luxembourg Gardens, Marc went for a long run (10 miles) and Stephanie went shopping. Later that evening we ate at a nice Vietnamese restaurant.

Monday we sat in a cafe and thought we would relax but we went on a long walk. We walked to the Eiffel Tower and then visited Sacre Coeur. Lots of tourists! We figured out that our coats are North Face, which is the equivalent of saying that we are Americans. Everyone was very friendly but sometimes a little too much English was spoken.

On Tuesday, we went to Musee d'Orsay but the line was way too long so we went to the Louvre - closed on Tuesdays! We went to the Arc de Triumph and looked at the view from the top. That night, we met Beth Lakin for dinner at a nice Lebanese restaurant.

On Wednesday, Marc took pictures all day and Stephanie went shopping. Dinner was Thai food!

On Thursday, We saw a movie "Duplicity". There are so many movie theatres with walking distance. Lots and lots of independent movies. We hung out in the Luxembourg Park for lunch. Marc went running and Stephanie went shopping. We met up with Beth again and ate at a very nice French Restaurant.

On Friday we went to Musee d'Orsay. It wasn't as crowded as the past few days. Stephanie was nice by buying tickets in advance. We went to a special exhibit on early photography (1840's) in Italy. Afterwards we walked home and stopped and watched another movie. We aren't able to go to nice movie theatres in Rabat so we forked out $13 to see "Predictions". Later that evening we ate Casoulet! It's might nicer on a cold French evening.

On Saturday, Marc got up early and ran 11 miles around the Louvre. Stephanie went wandering the streets of Paris. We ate at a nice Vietnamese Restaurant for our last big meal in Paris. After wards, went to a nice Farmer's Market. Then we searched for a photo gallery, which turned out to be closed. We did find a photo gallery at the French National Library which had a "Controversial" photos. It was popular and we had to wait 1.5 hours to get in. Very nice.

What a great trip!
