The Small Things...

This was a low key uneventful week which was nice for a change. It gives us an opportunity to talk about the small stuff. Marc had his first Moroccan hair cut which other foreigners had said that in general Moroccans cut too much hair but my hair wasn't short enough. I am Math department head at RAS and my first big job is adopting new texts for all grades K-12. It's been a good challenge and I'm finding it fascinating. I feel like my job is to get all the teachers together to talk about what they think. It brings up good questions and its healthy to question the direction of school and how should students learn math especially so that they'll do well on the International Bacaulauriate. We have to decide by next month because it takes at least six months to get text books because the shippers take forever to leave the port in the US and then get through customs in Morocco. It rained almost three full days this week. Everything is getting greener and greener. I read somewhere that this is the most rain Morocco has had in 35 years during this month. With the rain comes colder weather. It felt like 55 degrees in our house. Soon we will have to break out the firewood in our apartment. We will soon fill out our election ballot. Apparently for Denver, we can scan it and the email it. We are trying to make plans for our 1st anniversary next month (Nov 10). We will have a four day weekend so we plan on doing a little bit of traveling. Last week we went out and had sushi which was good but a little expensive (very very trendy). Then we went to some bars in Agdal (an area of Rabat). We went to a "TexMex" bar/restaurant. We met up with some Australians and a Dutch and then went to another bar which was about 5 feet by 20 feet (with two bouncers). It felt like a speak easy in the 1920s. There is a lot of Rabat we haven't seen yet.
