We met up with Myron and Kari in Fes and spent our five day weekend last week traveling around the northern part of the country. Our first stop was Fes. We took a very nice and easy three hour train ride from Rabat to Fes and met up with Myron and Kari at the Riad Louna. This was our first time staying at Riad (which means Garden). Wow, it was really nice. The next day we hired a guide to show us around the Medina. We didn't realize that around 250,000 people live in the Medina. It is really, really big. You could be lost in about 5 minutes and then you wonder around for more than a day before finding your way out! We had lots of fun seeing the medina and shopping. The next day we passed by Moulay Idriss and stopped at Volubilis which is Roman ruin from about 200 A.D. Lot's of history in this country! We then continued to Chefchouen. It took us a while to realize that the signs in Chefchouen where mostly in Spanish. I don't know where but at some point the 2nd language spoken changed from French to Spanish. There were lots of Spanish tourists here! The mountains reminded us of Colorado. The whole town is painted a beautiful blue - extremely relaxing.
