Moulay Bousselham and Merdja Zerga National Park

On December 6th, we went on a day trip to Moulay Bousselham with Steven Rudnitski who teaches high school math as well. Next to Moulay Bousselham is Merdja Zerga National Park which is a very large lagoon that is home to thousands of migrant birds in December. Our guide book told us to go down to the shore of the lagoon where there are some fishing boats and ask for a ride. It work... someone flagged us down and asked if we wanted a boat ride to look at birds. After negotiating a price, he told us that he is recommended is in our Lonely Planet guide! Sure enough, Mansour is in there. He took us around the Lagoon and showed us birds. Herons, ibises, spoonbills, plovers, and lots of egrets (we didn't see any flamingos that day). It was very peaceful and we were the only foreigners (and maybe tourists) on the lagoon that day. There were several fishermen who were harvesting clams (we were told the Spanish love to come here for the clams). After about three hours we landed and had a fish fry in the town of Moulay Bousselham. Moulay Bousselham was an Egyptian saint and has 7 shrines dedicated to him in the town.

Wow, those are fantastic photos. I especially like the one of the city on the coastline with the water in the foreground. The reeds sticking out of the water would make lovely framed prints for conversation pieces in a guest bedroom someday! Hope you are well.
